The idea behind Our Door is Open sessions began with Marta Carlucci (our Family Leadership Coordinator) meeting with family members. On her walks and coffee shop meet-ups, she began to recognize a pattern; these families were at different stages of their journey towards building true inclusion for their loved ones, and they wanted an informal and regular space where they could meet with the REA-L team and other families. They wanted access to an intimate setting where they could connect and build a network of support towards our shared mission.
This is why we started Our Door is Open sessions, held remotely via Zoom. Whether it's just to have a catch-up with Marta and Natalie (our Family Engagement and Practice Assistant) and discuss REA-L's work, or to delve deeper into your experiences and/or learning, we would be delighted to meet with you. You can bring along anyone you wish: your loved one, grandparents, aunties, uncles, friends, siblings, neighbours, community members. We want to encourage intergenerational and open conversations, as these are places where ideas can grow.
So, grab a hot drink, a snack, and come and chat with us for a while, sharing anything you wish about your family's journey to creating an inclusive and fulfilled life with your loved one. We welcome new families who are curious about what could be possible: exploring together what a regular, equitable, and authentic life can look like, and discovering possibilities beyond traditional services and programs.
